  1. It’s a pity the idea “The postman’s badge becomes an icon of hope” is spoiled by execution.
    An interesting sidelight is that Larkin’s great last poem Aubade ends
    “Work has to be done.
    Postmen like doctors go from house to house.”
    making the same point that the messenger is as important to society as the healer. Doesn’t sound like the sort of thing Brin would read, though…
